This was Jackie Wilson’s second single as a solo artist. The first one was “Reet Petite” (1957), which became a huge hit in Europe, when it was reissued in 1986 (UK #1, Ireland #1, Netherlands #1, Belgium #1, Finland #1).
Before going solo, Wilson was the lead singer of the Dominoes, where he replaced Clyde McPhatter in 1953, when the latter left the group and formed the Drifters.
