It took over 16 years to make this single a transatlantic chart-topper. "The Joker" was put into Levi's commercials in many European countries in 1990 and that soon led into the re-issue and re-discovery of the single.

The lyrics include a peculiar word, "pompatus". Miller said he coined it from an old R&B song, where it sounded like the singer (Vernon Green) was singing about pompatus of love. The song was "The Letter" and it was the flip side of a single I already posted here.
