This was Robbins’
third US Country #1 single and an international hit. This was also his
first recording session in New York.
There was a quite solid
group of session musicians backing him on this one. It has been said that
Robbins demanded to have Ray Conniff as the arranger for the session. This was
due to a lost “battle” Robbins had with Guy Mitchell with the song “Singing the
Blues” in 1956. Mitchell’s version was arranged by Conniff and it went #1 in
both US and UK charts, whereas Robbins’ release went US #17 and US Country #1.
