Brown signed with Aladdin Records in 1948 and his first release (“Get Yourself Another Fool”) with them was a US R&B #4 hit. This single, however, didn’t have much success. His next single “Black Night” topped the R&B chart in 1951.

Brown’s smooth style of West Coast Blues was influenced by the jazz piano of Nat King Cole.
