Record #0300: Tear It Up / You’re Undecided – JOHNNY BURNETTE AND THE ROCK’N’ROLL TRIO

Coral 61651 (original) USA, 1956
Words & Music by:  Johnny Burnette, Dorsey Burnette, Paul Burlison
Musicians: Johnny Burnette (vocals, rhythm guitar on side A), Dorsey Burnette (upright bass), Paul Burlison (lead guitar), Eddie Grady (drums), George Barnes (?) (rhythm guitar on side B)
Recording sessions: Produced by Henry Jerome at the Pythian Temple, New York, NY, May 7, 1956
Highest chart positions:  The record was a local hit in Boston and Baltimore, but didn’t hit the national charts.

This was the trio’s first release on Coral. Unlike in most of their Coral sessions, Burlison was not replaced by a session musician (usually Grady Martin) in this one.

The other songs recorded in this session were “Oh Baby Babe”, “Midnight Train” and “Shattered Dreams”.

Though “Tear It Up” is a classic in the genre, I like “You’re Undecided” more – especially knowing how they re-arranged it from the hillbilly style of their very first single “You’re Undecided”/”Go, Mule, Go” (Von 1006, 1954). I wish I had that single, too. Its list price is tenfold this record’s price. :)

List price:  Rare and in high demand ...
