Record #0285: Bo Diddley / I’m a Man – BO DIDDLEY

Checker 814 (original) USA, Mar. 1955
Words & Music by:  Ellas McDaniel (Bo Diddley)
Musicians: Bo Diddley (vocals and guitar), Jerome Green (maracas), Willie Dixon or James Bradford (bass), Clifton James or Frank Kirkland (drums), Otis Spann (piano), Billy Boy Arnold (harmonica)

The title song is one of the cornerstones of rock’n’roll with its hypnotic “jungle” beat. This was Diddley’s debut single (and his first recording session).

This single was later called a “double-sided monster” by All-Music Guide reviewer, Richie Unterberger. "I'm a Man" is a true classic as well.

List price:  Very Good+ is $25, Near Mint is $50
