Record #0332: Shoo-Be-Shoo-Be-Do / What Do You Do – CHECK-MATES

Regency 26 (original) USA, 1962 or '63
Words & Music by:  Side A – R. L. Stevens, Hemphill; Side B – Stevens
Musicians: Ernie Freeman (piano), others unknown (possibly Don Wilson on guitar)
Recording sessions: Produced by Don Wilson and Charlie Vance at Western Recorders, Hollywood, CA, 1962 or '63
Highest chart positions:  none

I cannot find much information on neither this doo-wop group nor this record. Even the label appears to have been a very small local label in Hollywood, CA.

One thing that I did found out is that the group had a linkage to a very famous band. The Check-Mates sang the vocals (with Don Wilson) on The Ventures’ 1961 single “The Twomp” (Blue Horizon 6054).

List price:  Not found in Goldmine catalog. Apparently this is very rare, but most likely not in a very high demand.
