Record #0184: Listen People / Got a Feeling– HERMAN’S HERMITS

MGM 13462 (original) USA, Feb.12, 1966
Words & Music by:  Side AGraham Gouldman; Side BFred Karger, Ben Weisman, Sid Wayne
Musicians:  Peter Noone (lead vocals), Derek Leckenby (lead guitar), Keith Hopwood (rhythm guitar and b-vocals), Karl Green (bass and b-vocals), Barry Whitwam (drums) ... These were the band members, but Mickie Most usually had session musicians (including Big Jim Sullivan and Jimmy Page) in the studio for the records which he produced. However, this is supposedly one of the singles where the group was allowed to play.
Recording sessions: Produced by Mickie Most, UK, 1965
Highest chart positions:  US #3, New Zealand #7, Sweden #7

Though this is a British group, these two songs were not released as a single in the UK.

“Listen People” was included in a 1965 musical film “When the Boys Meet the Girls”, featuring Herman’s Hermits, Connie Francis, Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs, Louis Armstrong and Liberace among others. “Got a Feeling” was in the group’s next movie “Hold On!” in 1966.

It’s been claimed that the group members would have preferred to play R&B and to write their own songs, but their producer Mickie Most kept them in a tight control and in the mainstream pop. The songs they penned and their R&B tracks ended up as flip sides or album fillers.

List price:  Very Good + is $4, Near Mint $8
