Record #0027: Little Red Rooster / Off the Hook – THE ROLLING STONES

Decca F12014 (2nd pressing?), UK, 1964
Words & Music by:  Side AWillieDixon; Side B – Nanker Phelge (or Nanker, Phelge)
Musicians:  Mick Jagger (vocals), Brian Jones (slide guitar & harmonica), Keith Richards (guitar), Charlie Watts (drums), Bill Wyman (bass)
Recording sessions:  Chess Studios, Chicago, IL, June(?) 1964
Highest chart positions:  US -, UK #1

The Rolling Stones recorded these tracks at the legendary Chess studios during their first US tour.

Stones’ US distributor (London Records) declined to release this as a single in the States (a bad decision?).

Nanker Phelge is a pseudonym of all members of the Stones together (sometimes including “the 6th Stone”, Ian Stewart). Many of the songs (incl. Off the Hook) originally credited for Phelge were credited for Jagger and Richards later on.

This band still has 3 original members after 50 years of existence! Pretty impressive.

List price:  I don’t have a price book for UK releases. This is not a very rare piece, though.
