song was originally named “Die Moritat von Mackie Messer” and written for a
German music drama, known in English as “The Threepenny Opera”.
This
arrangement was made by Turk Murphy and originally recorded by Louis Armstrong
in 1956.
Darin’s
version was ranked at #251 in Rolling Stone Magazine’s “the 500 Greatest Songs
of All Time” in 2003.
