How to put
anything in a nutshell about this huge classic rock’n’roll hit single? Maybe
just some bits from here and there.
Some info
sources say that Otis Blackwell wrote Great Balls of Fire with Jack Hammer;
others say that Blackwell was Jack Hammer.
The single
made the charts while Lewis’ previous hit “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On” was
still up there. Great Balls of Fire sold about 5 million copies, which was one
million less than what Whole Lotta Shakin’ sold. Jerry Lee Lewis was at the
peak of his success at this (fairly short) time.
“Great Balls of Fire” was also the title of a 1989 movie telling the story of Lewis
(starring Dennis Quaid and Winona Ryder).
List
price: “Very Good+” is $20 and “Near
Mint” is $40
