duo Goffin-King was probably running out of ideas at the time as they tried to
ride on “the Loco-Motion” (US #1, UK #2) they wrote for Little Eva (Boyd) the
year before. “Old Smokey Locomotion” had elements of “On Top of Old Smokey”
added to the earlier hit; and a “new” song was ready to go.
