The Drifters’ manager George Treadwell fired everybody from the original group in 1958, got a hold of a group known as “The 5 Crowns” and named them as “The Drifters”. In the process he excluded the 5th Crown, James “Poppa” Clark from the group.

Treadwell was also Sarah Vaughan’s manager and hubby until they divorced in 1957.

This was the first single released by the “new” Drifters. It was also the first Drifters single produced by Leiber & Stoller.
