Record #0240: The Dog / Did You Ever Love a Woman – RUFUS THOMAS

Stax 130 (original) USA, 1963
Words & Music by:  Side A – Rufus Thomas; Side BB.B. King
Musicians: Rufus Thomas (vocals), others unknown, but may include one or more of these:  Steve Cropper (guitar), Booker T. Jones (keyboards), Lewis Steinberg (bass), Al Jackson (drums)
Recording sessions: Side A – Memphis (?), TN, Aug. 21, 1963; Side B - unknown
Highest chart positions:  US #87, US R&B #22

This great R&B / blues single preceded Thomas’ only Top 10 hit in Billboard Hot 100, “Walking the Dog” (US #10).

Rufus’ daughter, Carla Thomas hit the Top 10 before he did (“Gee Whiz”, US #10 in 1961). Supposedly it’s the only time in history for a daughter to hit that Top 10 before her father does.

List price:  Very Good+ is $7.50, Near Mint is $15
