The Ravens was
the group that started the trend of vocal groups naming themselves after birds.
This was
largely the founder Jimmy “Ricky” Ricks’ group (formed in 1946) and after he
left it for good in 1956, it started to fade out and disbanded two years later.
Ricks had a solo career (no chart success) until he passed away in 1974. He was
also the vocalist of the Count Basie Orchestra in the early 70’s.
