Record #0157: Stood Up / Waitin’ In School – RICKY NELSON

Looks like I have two copies of this record. I made the post here earlier. This is a different pressing, though.

Record #0156: Perfidia / No Trespassing – THE VENTURES

Dolton 28 (original) USA, Oct. 1960
Music by:  Side A – Alberto Dominguez; Side B – Wilson, Bogle, Johnson, Edwards
Musicians:  Bob Bogle (lead guitar on side A, bass on side B), Don Wilson (rhythm guitar), Nokie Edwards (bass on side A, lead guitar on side B), Howie Johnson (drums)
Recording sessions:  Joe Boles’ Recording Studio, Seattle, WA, Sep. 26, 1960
Highest chart positions: US #15, US Cashbox #3, UK #4

In my opinion, the Ventures is one of the three big ones that have emerged from Seattle and its vicinity (the other two are Jimi Hendrix and Nirvana). They have sold over 100 million records and they’ve also developed the instruments & effect devices.

This was the group’s second biggest hit.

List price:  Very Good + is $10, Near Mint $20; picture sleeve is $25 for VG+ and $50 for NM.

Record #0155: Batman Theme / Alone – LINK WRAY AND THE RAYMEN

Swan 4244 (original) USA, 1966
Words & Music by:  Side ANeal Hefti; Side B – Link Wray, M. Cooper
Musicians:  Link Wray (guitars), Doug Wray (drums), Shorty Horton (bass), probably Vernon Wray on keyboards and sound effects
Recording sessions:  Produced by Vernon Wray at Three Track Shack, Accokeek, MD, 1966
Highest chart positions: didn’t hit Top 100

Here’s the grandfather of the power chord and #45 in the 100 greatest guitar players of all time according to Rolling Stone magazine. Link is also widely regarded as an (or THE) early pioneer of heavy rock and punk.
This guy has influenced so many great guitar players and other musicians, including little old me (in the "others"). Luckily I have more of his 45’s to post here later.

List price:  Very Good + is $12.50, Near Mint $25. I would never even think about selling this one.

Record #0154: Keep Your Hands Off My Baby / Where Do I Go – LITTLE EVA

Dimension 1003 (original) USA, Oct. 1962

Musicians:  Little Eva (vocals), others unknown
Recording sessions:  Produced by Gerry Goffin in New York, NY, in 1962
Highest chart positions: US #12, US R&B #6, UK #30

Keep Your Hands Off My Baby” wasn’t Little Eva’s biggest hit, but it certainly is one of the best songs she ever recorded, if not the best. The song was later covered by many artists including the Beatles (BBC sessions, Jan. 1963), Wayne Fontana, the Trashmen, Helen Shapiro, Skeeter Davis and Kirsty MacColl.

Where Do I Go” was initially released on Eva’s first album “Llllloco-Motion”

List price:  Very Good + is $6, Near Mint $12. If side A is titled “Keep Your Hands Off”, NM is $15.
